Taking it back to Tuckahoe
Our commitment to innovative research goes back 90 years in Tuckahoe where some of GSK’s greatest scientific and medical breakthroughs had their origins at Burroughs Wellcome’s research laboratories.
Turning the traditional product-oriented research methods of the pharmaceutical industry on their head, researchers at our Burroughs Wellcome lab in Tuckahoe used cross-discipline approaches to drug development methodology. Several of the most-celebrated research scientists in GSK’s history - including Nobel Laureates George Hitchings and Gertrude Elion – called Tuckahoe home. The drug discoveries they made there include some of the first to treat leukemia, gout, viral infections, and organ transplant rejection.
We continue to honor the spirit of the Tuckahoe Experimental Laboratories in our contemporary research operations throughout the US.
