GSK pledges $1 million to support hurricane relief efforts
When our communities hurt, we come together to find ways to support. This was the case in Houston in September 2017.
Following Hurricane Harvey, GSK pledged $1 million to support relief efforts to areas impacted by disaster. The funds, in addition to employee donations, will be distributed over time to agencies supporting the relief and recovery in impacted communities not only in Texas but across Florida and Puerto Rico following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Working with Americares and Direct Relief International, we also provided critical medicines, vaccines and consumer healthcare products to support those affected by the Hurricanes.
We have a longstanding global commitment to supporting non-profit partners in disaster situations. In 2015, we made a $2 million grant to fund a joint Save the Children-Columbia University National Center for Disaster Preparedness 3-year initiative to help US communities better prepare for disaster situations like the one that ravaged the Houston area.
Through our partnership with Save the Children over the past 4 years, our employees have raised more than $400,000 to support Save the Children’s response to emergencies such as Hurricane Harvey. All of these funds and other employee donations to relief organizations are fully matched by the company.
